PRABOWO SUBIANTO: MERITOCRACY OFFERS HUGE OPPORTUNITIES FOR MILLENILAS IN LEADERSHIP

Rakyat Aktual. Meritocracy is the system that allows chances to everybody according to his or her ability and performance.
That is the definition of meritocracy according to the Great Dictionary of the Indonesian Language or Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI). It explicitly implies that someone is given the chance to lead not because of the wealth, seniority or else”.

Meritocracy is a way or method which is believed by Prabowo in applying leadership management. Prabowo puts his trust to the youngsters to lead a department. The clear example is when he appointed Sudaryono as his private secretary when he is under thirty years old.

“Pak Prabowo is a senior leader who trusts millennial to take opportunity showing his or her ability. The most important thing is how you prove your competencies. For your information, that competencies are not determined by age”.    Prabowo explained about the idea of meritocracy.

“Prabowo has witnessed how meritocracy has been applied since the early era of our impendence. Youngsters have taken important roles in the process of our independence. Bung Karno was 44 years old when he became the first president of Republic of Indonesia. And Bung Hatta, the Vice President, was 43 years old. Both of them were youngsters.”

Indonesia is the country that gets its freedom by struggling to get it; it is not like other countries that got their freedom as present. For that reason, Indonesia needs to defend its freedom constantly.

During the early age of our freedom youngsters had shown the roles very significant to resist the Dutch aggression. The notable Commander in Chief of Indonesia is General Soedirman who was appointed to lead the TENTARA KEAMANAN RAKYAT (TKR)  of Indonesia or when was 29 years old.  TKR was pioneer of Army of Indonesia or TNI nowadays.

The other youngster of Indonesia is Syafruddin Prawiranegara. When Indonesia was forced by The Dutch military aggression, Bung Karno and Bung Hatta were arrested in 19 December 1948.

Indonesia needs to establish emergency government right ways so called Pemerintahan Darurat Republik Indonesia (PDRI).The one who took the huge responsibility was Syafruddin Prawiranegara. He was 37 years old at that time and he moved the capital to Bukittinggi West Sumatera.

Sultan Hamengkubuwono IX became the leader in Yogyakarta when he was 34 years old. He also took the huge responsibility when the capital of Indonesia was moved to Yogyakarta in 1946.
Bung Tomo led to resist the Dutch aggression in Surabaya on November 10th in 1945 when he was 25 years old.

Sutan Sjahrir and Mohammad Natsir helped Bung Karno and Bung Hatta when they were under 40 year old. . And countless youngsters who have important roles can’t be mentioned one by one here.
Age is only a matter of numbers.  The chances for youngsters need to be given to them on order to be the future leaders.
